The next Cairo Designathon has just launched applications for its Design Marathon, which will be held in Downtown Cairo from November 17–25, 2023, during Cairo Design Week.

The first collaborative design marathon in Egypt and the MENA region, Cairo Designathon was established in April 2020 with the goal of creating positive societal impact via Good Design.

The following design marathon is scheduled for Cairo Design Week 2023, which will take place in November of that year.

The fourth design marathon’s 2023 topic is #RECLAIM.

The theme is reflected in 5 design challenges:
Architecture: Design for the People
Interior Design: Design for Community
Furniture Design: Design for Circularity
Communication Design: Design for Awareness
Fashion Design: Design for Reclamation

Application Dates:
Call for Application: Sunday, 1st of October
Application Deadline: Wednesday, 1st of November

Marathon Dates:
Launch: Friday, 17th of November
Day 1: Saturday, 18 November
Deadline: Thursday, 23 November
Jury: Friday, 24 November

CDW’23 Design Marathon Prizes:
5 Winning Prize 1 in each track: Getting cash prize for each winning team in each track + Cairo Designathon Award & Certificate

5 Runner-up Prizes, 1 in each track: Getting Cairo Designathon Award & Certificate

Format for a design sprint:

In one of the design challenges for the marathon, multidisciplinary designers are gathered together into teams and given a design task to solve. Over the course of five days, they begin brainstorming with their designated design mentors utilizing the “Design Thinking Methodology” to come up with the greatest design solution for that design issue.

Jury Session: For each challenge, a diverse jury committee evaluates the results of the design teams and selects one winning team and one runner-up.

Award:

The winning teams receive a cash award, the Cairo Designathon trophy, publications, and publicity.

Cairo Designathon Trophy, publications, and exposure are awarded to the runner-up teams.

Significant Dates

From Saturday, November 18, through Thursday, November 23, the Marathon will take place.

On Friday, November 24, the Marathon Jury hearings will take place.
