Call For Submissions To ASF Awards 2023
ASF Awards is organized by Architecture Sans Frontières International (ASF Int) and was founded to share the most efficient solutions developed by architects globally to the many social, environmental, and economic challenges facing the built environment. The goal of the award is to promote those solutions among the design profession and the general public, which will encourage an exchange of ideas and challenge the profession to develop the construction of social facilities and infrastructure.
Rules
1. Participants And Eligibility
– The competition is open for all: ASF Members and non-ASF Members, students, and professionals from all the disciplines of design. Teams and individuals.
– The challenge is open worldwide for anyone to participate.
2. Registration Fees
The competition is free of charge to all participants
3. Award
– Prize money of 2000€
– The winners are going to be rewarded with Certificates of Achievement and publication on the ASF-Int website and social media.
4. Type And Scope Of Entries
– The competition is open for all types of entries, both completed and ongoing projects.
– The scope of entries: Designed Built environments, Design Interventions, Participatory Workshops, Educational Initiatives, Social and Cultural Upliftment, and Economic Proposals realized after the year 2018.
– The type of projects can range from small scale to a larger urban context varying from architectural projects, urban planning, and design interventions, environmental and landscape architecture, Industrial design, educational, cultural, and economic interventions, projects with the relevance of social participation process, etc.
5. General Framework Of Content
It is important to take into account in such a competition the non-homogenous character of the projects and the different situations (in terms of economy, ecology, and society) that they take place. Nevertheless, the goal of all the projects is the same; to provide solutions to problems related to architecture or urbanism for the underprivileged, deprived, or oppressed, vulnerable populations. It is obligatory then to set some criteria that could make the comparison of the projects possible, but also to offer a means to measure the proximity of the projects to the goal. Based on this the entries should highlight the following aspects:
– Vision of the project (impact of the project)
– Clarity in expressing the core idea of the project.
– Results or outputs of the project through visuals.

9. Judging Criteria
The entries will be judged by an international jury of the competition on the following criteria:
– How has the project addressed the concerns raised in Hasselt Charter?
– Functional suitability and contextual emphasis of the project/proposal.
– How has the beneficiary participated in the overall project process?
– How has the Economics of the project/proposal worked out and managed?
– Are there any sustainable solutions / Innovations (economical, ecological, social, technological, etc.)
– What are the development/application possibilities?
The judging panel can also add other criteria based on their internal discussions
10. Jury
The members of the jury or organizing team can not submit projects for the award. Jury members shall under no circumstances be contacted by competition participants or their representatives. Participants who attempt to contact jury members shall be disqualified. All jury members are involved in the evaluation based on their availability at that time. Jury panels consist of architects, in addition to professionals from other professional backgrounds that are relevant to the competition topic, to guarantee the most objective competition results.
11. Copyright
The rights of the submitted material will stay with the owners, but ASF International can use the submitted materials in the communication of the organization when the source of the materials is mentioned.
12. Guarantees
Candidates declare that they own all of the rights on the Project submitted for consideration for the Award. This protects the Organisers against any problem, plea, action, or claim from a third party over the Project submitted as well as the rights transferred as listed in Article 11 of the ASF AWARD 2021 COMPETITION TERMS AND CONDITIONS.
13. Personal Data
– The personal data (‘Data’) of candidates for the Award will be processed as per the provisions of this Article. Data processing is managed by ASF Int (Organisers), who are responsible for it and delegate this task to a provider.
– Some Data will be collected from candidates for the Award. This Data will be collected through emails at the time of application.
– Data are collected with the legitimate intent to keep them so that Organisers can contact candidates post-nomination.
– Data access is only granted, in a limited way, to the employees of Organisers who need to access this Data to perform their duties. These employees have a strict duty of confidentiality about this Data (especially, the people in charge of the coordination of the award).
– Organisers keep Data on their servers. Organizers ensure that any collected data is not damaged, destroyed, or divulged to unauthorized third parties. Organizers make the necessary technical and logistical arrangements to ensure Data is secure during its processing and retention, such as securing access to the premises and servers, securing the IT system where the Data is saved, encrypting emails through an SSL certificate, and so on.
– By GDPR (enforced 25 May 2018) and Law No. 78-17 of 6 January 1978 on information technology files and freedom, subsequently modified on 20 June 2018, anyone whose Data is collected has a right to access, rectification, restriction, and erasure of their Data; a right of portability of Data, as well a right to decide how the Data is managed after their death. Affected individuals can also refuse, for legitimate reasons, the processing of part or all of their Data.
– Anyone wanting to action one of these rights can get in contact with the Award team (Organisers) responsible for Personal Data on behalf of the Organisers.
