Casa Encantada .. One of the most expensive mansions in the United States has returned to the luxury real estate market with an asking price of $175 million, a $10 million increase from its previous asking price last November.
The mansion, known as Casa Encantada, is located in the upscale Bel-Air neighborhood of Los Angeles and was previously listed for $250 million, making it the most expensive home ever for sale in America.
An architectural masterpiece with a luxurious classical design
The massive mansion was built in 1937 by architect James E. Dolina for Hilda Weber, the widow of a millionaire glassmaker.
In 1950, businessman Conrad Hilton, founder of the famous Hilton Hotel chain, purchased it for $225,000.
Since then, the mansion has changed hands among the world’s wealthy, with billionaire David Murdoch buying it in the 1980s for a then-record $12.4 million.
In 2000, billionaire Gary Winnick, founder of Global Crossing Communications, purchased it for $94 million, setting a new record at the time.
Mansion Features: 60 Rooms and Lush Gardens
The mansion spans 8.4 acres and features 60 rooms, including seven master bedrooms and 20 bathrooms, totaling 40,000 square feet.
Interior details include:
A grand entry foyer with a 14-foot ceiling.
A lavish walnut-lined library.
A contemporary Art Deco salon with a glass-fronted bar.
The surrounding gardens include:
A 60-foot swimming pool.
A tennis court with a viewing pavilion.

Los Angeles’ Most Expensive Mansions and Fire Risks
Casa Encantada is the third most expensive home for sale in Los Angeles, behind a $195 million mansion in Beverly Hills.
Of the eight mansions in the city valued at over $100 million, most are located in high-risk fire zones, according to a Cal Fire map updated this week.
Why is the mansion back on the market now?
“Casa Encantada is one of the most important homes in the United States,” said Josh Flagg, a real estate broker with Compass. “We’ve seen a recent increase in demand, and we’re looking for buyers who understand the value of such an architectural masterpiece.”
The mansion’s return to the market is believed to be linked to the death of billionaire Gary Winnick last year, which prompted his heirs to put it up for sale again.
Who will be the new owner?
With Casa Encantada back on the market at such a high price, many are wondering who will be the next owner of this historic architectural masterpiece.
Will it be an Arab billionaire, a Hollywood star, or an international businessman seeking to own a piece of history? Time will tell.
