Who is Takeda Katsuya? Can you share your background story and what inspired you to enter the field of design?

In 1998, I left Kumamoto, Japan and moved to Florence, Italy, to study architecture at the University of Florence. After graduating, I went to Milan and joined a Japanese company specializing in project management in the fashion industry. Where I acquired important managerial experience while working with Gucci. With years of knowledge in the field of architecture and interior design, as well as developing projects in Japan and Europe, I specialized in luxury retail, including work for Dolce & Gabbana and Ermanno Scervino. Afterward, I decided to embark on a business venture and in 2014, established my own interior design studio, Takeda Katsuya Design, located in Via del Torchio in Milan.

Your studio encompasses a wide range of design disciplines, including architecture, interior design, and product design. Could you explain the overarching philosophy that connects these diverse areas of your work?

At Takeda Katsuya Design, Design Atmosphere takes center stage as an on-going exploration for forms, colours and materials to evoke feelings and sensations. It’s an important trait of TKD that we take pleasure in experimenting with design concepts that fulfill both the practical needs of customers and the space. Every project is individualised with a concept idea that highlights the client’s identity and emulates their values and flair. Our proficiency lies mainly in interior design, where we craft and visualise interiors. Additionally, we excel in the worlds of graphics and product design, where we shape brand identities and create custom furnishings and lighting solutions. Our goal is to produce balanced and unique spaces with harmonised atmospheres.
