Global design firm Populous has revealed plans for a makeshift Cricket World Cup stadium that will be built in New York using recycled materials.
The International Cricket Council (ICC) Men’s 2024 T20 World Cup, which the United States and the West Indies will co-host in June 2024, will include eight matches held at the Nassau County International Cricket World Cup, a modular sports complex.
The stadium is scheduled to be built at Eisenhower Park in Nassau County, New York, which is about 30 miles (48 kilometers) east of Manhattan on Long Island. Its approximate dimensions are 361,850 square feet (33,616 square meters).
A modular construction system that could host the World Cup and then be “removed in legacy” was chosen by Populous.
“Our design for Nassau County International Cricket World Cup was inspired by the world-class standard set by the ICC and to serve as an exemplary introduction for those new to the sport of cricket,” Jeff Keas, a senior principal at Populous, told
“We developed an environment that not only embodies the passion and spirit of its fanbase but creates a remarkable experience for both US and international cricket fans to enjoy some of the sport’s greatest rivalries.”
Moreover, There will be 34,000 seats available at the stadium for premium and general admission patrons. There will be six upper, two-tiered sections and six lower, single-tiered sections, all surrounded by support structures.
The Formula 1 Grand Prix complex in Las Vegas, Nevada is repurposing its modular grandstands.
The building will also have media and broadcast spaces, a fan zone with food and beverage shops, a party deck, and cabanas for VIPs and guests.
The wicket is being made in Florida and will be shipped to New York in May. It is a drop-in square that resembles those seen in Eden Park, New Zealand, and Adelaide Oval, Australia.
Midway through January, site work got underway. Building work is scheduled to start in early February and finish in early May, with the World Cup’s first game between the South African and Sri Lankan teams scheduled for June 3, 2024.
The modular stadium’s assembly will be coordinated by the Arena Group and the global sports procurement company The Parker Company.

The Populous team clarified that The Parker Company and Arena will take down the installation following the start of the eight planned games and return the location to Nassau County, where it will continue to be one of the biggest public spaces in the New York metropolitan area.
“Event overlay and temporary modular structures are a key part of our work at Populous,” Keas stated.”From a sustainability point of view, it is essential that event organizers can utilize high-quality, demountable and modular structures that can then be reused while making sure that the fan experience remains at the heart of the project.”
