The Daxi Wood Art Ecomuseum proudly announces the 2nd Daxi International Wood Furniture Craft and Design Competition, inviting submissions from now until February 3, 2025. This year’s theme, “Storage,” challenges creators worldwide to reimagine wooden furniture design, blending traditional craftsmanship with innovative, contemporary aesthetics. The competition celebrates the artistry and functionality of wooden furniture, encouraging designers to explore new horizons in woodworking.

Categories and Prizes

The competition offers two categories: the Open Group and the Youth Group, with a combined prize pool of US$43,000. The Grand Prize for the Open Group is US$12,000, while the Youth Group Grand Prize is US$7,700. With 16 awards available, the competition is open to individuals of all nationalities, professions, and backgrounds, uniting global talent in the pursuit of creative wooden furniture design.

Daxi’s Rich Woodworking Heritage

Located in Taoyuan, Daxi is renowned for its thriving woodcraft industry, rooted in a legacy that dates back to the 19th century. The Ecomuseum plays a vital role in preserving and promoting this heritage through exhibitions, artisan training, and educational outreach. In 2023, the inaugural competition attracted 519 entries from 14 countries, culminating in 16 winning designs that were exhibited and toured globally. This initiative not only highlighted Daxi’s woodworking culture but also fostered international collaboration and exchange.

Theme: “Storage”

This year’s theme, “Storage,” addresses the evolving demands of modern living spaces, emphasizing functionality, adaptability, and aesthetics. Participants are encouraged to integrate innovative features such as expandability, multipurpose use, and spatial efficiency while experimenting with diverse materials and creative design philosophies. The competition aims to inspire designs that embody warmth, imagination, and a seamless blend of traditional and modern woodworking techniques.
