Designed by Haydon Zhengzhou of SALONE DEL SALON,
Completed SALONE DEL SALON Haydon Zhengzhou in Zhengzhou, enan, China.
The space called Haydon Zhengzhou, is located on the 1st floor of CITY IMIX PARK, No. 72 Taikang Road,
Guancheng Hui District, Zhengzhou.
Haydon Zhengzhou design is inspired by Zhengzhou’s Gaocheng Observatory,
which is the oldest preserved astronomical platform in China which holds strong historical value.
As a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most famous astronomical structures in the world,
Gaocheng Observatory represents the extraordinary achievements of ancient Chinese astronomy.
Taking design cues from the structures of Gaocheng Observatory and considering Zhengzhou’s local cultural context and Haydon’s commercial personality,
SALONE DEL SALON took “stargazing” as the design thread, to express the exploration of the universe and the unknown and Haydon’s indefinite brand essence.
Design features
The Gaocheng Observatory’s structural form is integrated into this retail space, by extracting the spiral shape of its steps.
and the reinterpretation of its other parts such as Shibiao and Shigui through new structures and materials.
In this way, the space presents a modern, mysterious and dreamy presentation.
The storefront features linear lighting that creates a cool sense of order,
and the dark green tone highlights a retro, upscale texture.
Mud-like finishes extend throughout the interior space.
Both exterior and interior design show strong features and cultural symbols.
Like ancient astronomical instruments, circular lighting fixtures suspended throughout the space dialogue with the local cultural context.
Silvery gray tones and dark green retro elements contrast but complement each other.
Dreamy purple lighting “tints” the unique surrounding structures in various tones, creating a visual focus on the “display”.
Greenery is brought in to form a pathway that adds vitality to the space.
The track is like a platform, which expands the overall space design while creating an invigorating experience.
The staircase has a unique shape that takes design cues from the steps of Gaocheng Observatory.
Its ancient spiral shape and modern mirrored surfaces seem to contrast but actually blend with each other.
The design conveys the brand’s stance and strengthens its identity,
and also depicts the concept of “the city” through ritual and modern expressions.
