Actor, producer, and director Elizabeth Banks and her longtime husband Max Handelman just snagged a charming Los Angeles home for $2.1 million, reports Dirt. Reportedly, the couple plan on using the property as a live-work space for their 2002-founded Brownstone Productions company, which produced the Pitch Perfect film series, Hulu’s Shrill, and the 2019 Charlie’s Angels movie that Banks also directed.
Located in Studio City’s desirable Silver Triangle neighborhood, the single-level home holds two bedrooms and bathrooms across 1,450 square feet, plus a guest suite above the detached two-car garage, complete with its own bathroom and a cheery blue kitchenette outfitted with a jet-black Smeg mini fridge. The property also houses a small blue-tiled pool with an adjoining spa and a pergola-topped deck. “I have never done a total teardown, so I am always looking for great bones in a home, and I like spaces where I understand how to live,” Banks told AD in 2017. That is certainly true of this conventional-style house, which makes highly efficient use of its postage-stamp-sized lot. The Hollywood couple must have thought so too since they entered a bidding war over the property and ended up paying about $400,000 over the asking price.
Although it has since been remodeled several times, the 1937-built abode retains some of its original charm with period windows and a large fireplace bordered with white millwork in the formal living room. An adjacent formal dining room sports white wainscotting and an arched doorway that leads to a small breakfast nook. Modern furnishings complement the dark hardwood floors and arched doorways found throughout the home. Each bedroom has an ensuite bathroom and connects directly to the private hedge-bordered backyard area, including the guest suite above the garage, which enjoys a small balcony with a spiral staircase leading down to the pool.
Banks and Handelman also maintain a $7 million home in Sherman Oaks.
