UNDIP is excited to announce EPOCH45, a multidisciplinary student and young professionals planning competition. EPOCH45 seeks spatial solutions for the next phases of development of Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara (IKN).

The Challenge

EPOCH45 invites participants to explore the concepts of Evolutionary Planning and envision pathways of incremental development for Nusantara. The goal is to transform from an administrative core in 2025 into a self-reliant and robust “Forest City” housing 2 million people by 2045. The competition encourages reimagining traditional planning paradigms within the dynamic landscape of Kalimantan.

Scope of Work

Participants will work across three scales:

  • Regional Vision: Develop the infrastructural, economic, agricultural, and ecological backbone of IKN.
  • Town Planning: Design one or more districts, focusing on urban fabric, typologies, and transit systems.
  • Block and Street Level: Provide architectural impressions illustrating how regional and district plans manifest at the scale of the inhabitants.

The design must integrate urban, agricultural, and natural systems to achieve a sustainable vision for the region.
