Advances in Architectural Geometry AAG2025

16 November، 2025 @ 8:00 am - 19 November، 2025 @ 5:00 pm

The Advances in Architectural Geometry (AAG) 2025 conference will be hosted at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge, MA from November 16–19, 2025. This marks the first time the event will take place in North America, adding to its rich history across Europe.

Geometry lies at the very core of architectural design—spanning form-finding, material performance, algorithmic processes, novel manufacturing techniques, and post-occupancy monitoring. With the rapid evolution of computational design and digital fabrication, geometry now plays a central role in environmental modeling, sensing technologies, and interdisciplinary integration.

Since its inception in 2008, AAG has become a premier biennial event that unites architects, engineers, computer scientists, mathematicians, software designers, and contractors, providing a common platform for both theoretical advances and practical applications in architectural geometry.

Architectural Significance

The AAG 2025 Boston conference emphasizes how geometry serves as both a descriptive and generative tool in contemporary architecture. By enabling complex shape design, structural optimization, and robotic fabrication, geometry bridges architecture, mathematics, and engineering in innovative ways.

MIT’s role as host further highlights the intersection of academia, computation, and practice. The event reflects on how algorithmic design processes can integrate multidisciplinary inputs, while also addressing the challenges posed by real-world architectural contexts.

This creates a fertile ground for exploring parametric modeling, environmental simulation, robotic construction, and sustainable fabrication methods, making AAG 2025 a crucial moment in architectural research and practice.

✦ ArchUp Editorial Insight

The decision to host AAG 2025 in Boston at MIT marks a milestone for North American architectural research. The event stands out for bridging abstract mathematical theory with practical construction methods—an area where architecture and engineering increasingly converge.

Its strength lies in its cross-disciplinary reach, drawing not only architects but also mathematicians, computer scientists, and fabricators. This ensures that discussions remain both technically rigorous and practically applicable.

Yet, one constructive question arises: will computational geometry remain accessible to broader architectural practice, or will it continue to be concentrated in specialized high-tech offices and research labs? AAG 2025 may offer answers, fostering a dialogue between accessibility, inclusivity, and innovation.

Conclusion

Advances in Architectural Geometry (AAG) 2025 represents the forefront of computational and geometric thinking in architecture. By gathering experts from research, academia, and practice, it serves as both a knowledge exchange and a testing ground for future innovations.

As geometry continues to define the future of architecture—shaping everything from parametric facades to robotic construction—this symposium will play a pivotal role in advancing how design, engineering, and technology intersect.

With its first North American edition at MIT, AAG 2025 is more than a conference: it is a statement about the global relevance of geometry in shaping the built environment.
