The BI Summer School 2026 explores the vital relationship between water and urban life in Berlin, a city defined by its rivers, canals, and lakes. This two-week program in summer 2026 allows students and recent graduates to collaborate with experts in urban studies, environmental science, and design to reimagine Berlin’s water systems and contribute innovative solutions for the future.
Theme
The second edition of the BI Summer School focuses on the theme “Water” to study and document the city. “On Water” refers to the systems that connect different parts of the city and structure the flows of people, culture, and commerce, highlighting the essential role ecology and natural resources play in cities. Water is a finite, amorphous resource, yet heavily managed and controlled.
