Overview

The BIG SEE Festival 2026 will take place in Portorož, Slovenia from May 21 to May 22. The festival brings together professionals from architecture and design and brand executives and world leaders to discuss three central themes that define their work. The festival, which began as BIG Architecture and BIG Design, now presents a range of activities which include conferences and award shows and trade exhibitions and showings that all revolve around the central theme of Too much? What is just enough?

Festival Focus

The event investigates the balance between abundance and restraint in contemporary practice. Architecture and design serve as tools that deliver structure and orientation to people while creating meaningful experiences. Participants must evaluate their work according to three standards which include ethical measurement and relevance and long-term effects.

Program Structure

Conference: Pause and Take Responsibility

The conference examines three main topics which are relevant to its audience while assessing their judgment skills and measuring the resulting consequences. The five selected viewpoints which include Architecture and Relevance and Urban Humanity and The Great Reduction and BIG and Measure in Architecture will present solutions to critical challenges which include determining architectural service providers and maintaining human characteristics in urban areas and using ethical standards to support design processes. The program pairs established professionals with new talent to create discussion opportunities which will enable the audience to participate while they think about different ideas.

✦ ArchUp Editorial Insight

The BIG SEE Festival 2026 establishes architectural and design evaluation criteria through its three core principles of relevance and responsibility and restraint. The event combines three components which include conferences and awards and a curated trade show to establish ethical decision-making and contextual awareness and sustainable results as its main priority instead of focusing on entertainment value or event size. The festival promotes assessment of design elements which include human-centered urban design and material usage restrictions and impactful new developments because it treats design as a method to achieve social and spatial responsibility. The research project permits architects and designers to challenge their existing beliefs while they create sustainable practices which connect their work to cultural traditions and environmental security through its broad outreach.

Conclusion

The BIG SEE Festival 2026 establishes architectural and design fields as tools for practitioners who seek to use their work for responsible practice and thoughtful self-assessment and controlled execution. The festival uses its three components of conferences and awards and a curated trade show to help professionals navigate complex situations by teaching them to focus on relevant details while they assess how their work will create lasting results. The space provides upcoming and current professionals with a chance to test their beliefs and exchange knowledge while they work to build the future design landscape across Southeast Europe and other regions.
