Vienna Design Week, Austria’s largest curated design festival, returns in 2024 to showcase the innovative spirit of Viennese and Austrian design. For ten days in autumn, the festival transforms overlooked corners of Vienna into vibrant stages for creative exploration, drawing in over 40,000 visitors annually to around 200 events.
A City Full of Design
The festival emphasizes Vienna as a “City Full of Design,” where both critical and playful approaches to design are explored. It highlights everything from product, furniture, and industrial design to architecture, graphic design, social design, and experimental digital positions. Through these diverse formats, the festival reveals new perspectives on everyday objects and the design process, often experimenting with site-specific installations and interactions.
Connecting Local Talent to Global Platforms
Vienna Design Week is dedicated to internationally connecting the vibrant local design scene with global audiences. The festival’s curated program includes popular formats such as Passionswege, Stadtarbeit, FOKUS, Debut, Re, and Urban Food & Design. Each year, the festival focuses on changing themes that reflect current trends and their impact on design, alongside contributions from numerous Programme Partners.
A Space for Dialogue and Networking
Founded by Lilli Hollein, Tulga Beyerle, and Thomas Geisler, and currently led by Gabriel Roland since 2021, the festival is organized by a diverse team that brings together various fields of knowledge and design approaches. The festival also includes a range of informal networking opportunities, providing a platform for celebration and professional discourse among designers, enthusiasts, and experts alike.
