Overview

The *Survey of Maya’s Solar* 2026 workshop is a field-based documentation and heritage conservation workshop held in Bécal, Mexico. The international association *Taller & Patrimoine* organized the workshop which studies traditional Maya dwellings together with their associated architectural styles through their ongoing cultural heritage status. (Architecture Events)

Focus

The workshop emphasizes architectural inventory, measured surveys, photographic documentation, material analysis, and the creation of an open‑access heritage database. The team will conduct two activities which include mapping endangered species that affect building materials and performing technical site analysis through thermal imaging and drone technology. This applied documentation agenda aligns with practices often explored in Architecture Articles.

Programme

The programme consists of fieldwork training plus guided documentation exercises and technical workshops about survey tools and professional exchanges which take place on selected Sundays in March 2026. The participants will work with master builders and heritage practitioners together with their multidisciplinary peers who will be present in their rural environment. The applied workshop formats of this study work like real-world practice scenarios which Architecture Competitions use to evaluate technical accuracy and documentation standards.

Audience

The workshop is open to architecture students and conservation professionals and anthropologists and anyone interested in heritage documentation and cultural sustainability and traditional construction methods.

✦ ArchUp Editorial Insight

The *Survey of Maya’s Solar* 2026 workshop created a practical space which enables technical documentation and heritage conservation work for Maya traditional buildings in Bécal Mexico. The project shows its scientific field research approach through its three main activities which include measured surveys and material analysis and photographic recording and open-access data creation. The workshop shows how traditional building methods become documented systems while offering real-world methods for maintaining architectural heritage. The research center functions as a professional skill development hub which supports research activities related to heritage studies of rural architectural spaces despite lacking the structure of a typical academic conference.

Critical Conclusion

The *Survey of Maya’s Solar* 2026 workshop offers a unique hands‑on opportunity to contribute to the preservation and technical study of Maya vernacular architecture. The program enables participants to gain essential professional skills through its practical application of documentation methods and field research work in conservation and heritage research settings. The workshop provides a traditional academic conference function through its focus on skill development and sustainable heritage outreach which connects grassroots architectural work with cultural sustainability efforts.
