Gensler Designs Circular EV-Focused Apartment Complex in Ontario

Home » Article Archive » Gensler Designs Circular EV-Focused Apartment Complex in Ontario

Gensler, the US architecture studio, has unveiled the design for the Electric Vehicle Enclave (EVE) Park, an apartment complex in Ontario, Canada, integrating circular buildings and electric vehicle (EV) parking towers. Located outside Toronto, the development focuses on community-oriented, green living by incorporating sustainable features and EV infrastructure.

Circular Design and Community Integration

EVE Park comprises four circular apartment buildings arranged in clusters with stepped rooflines. The design creates dynamic spatial experiences between buildings, allowing optimal harnessing of solar energy through roof-mounted solar panels. The circular clusters foster a sense of community with a shared courtyard and private outdoor spaces, emphasizing a residential experience centered on connection to the outdoors.

Integrated EV Parking Garages

The highest points of the curved rooflines feature autonomous EV parking garages covered in plants, descending along one side of the buildings. These integrated garages aim to reduce vehicular land occupancy, including driveways and individual car garages. Additionally, at the tallest end of the building, a vertically stacked garage houses shared electric vehicles, contributing to a reduction in the community’s carbon footprint and emissions.

Sustainable Design and Net-Positive Energy Consumption

Gensler incorporates various sustainable design strategies, including energy-efficient appliances and Energy Recovery Ventilators (ERVs) for air filtration. The goal is to achieve net-positive energy consumption for the complex. The buildings will host 84 households, featuring one, two, and three-bedroom condos. Interiors are designed with double-height living spaces, large fireplaces, and multiple picture windows.

Integration of Nature and Technology

Gensler emphasizes that EVE Park is forward-thinking in its program conceptualization. Therefore, showcasing how the integration of nature and technology can shape the community of the future. The design aims to provide a sustainable, community-focused residential development, embracing green technologies and fostering a connection to the outdoors.
