Gorky Park Skating Rink. 2018/19 Season
The skating rink in Gorky Park is the main place for winter festivities in the center of Moscow dating back to the 1920s. Every year from November to March, the park’s alleys get coated with ice, and the largest ice rink in Europe opens for everyone. Anything you need is available here: the skating rink itself with many tracks and routes, food courts, entertainment venues, training classes, quests, and much more.
Every year, the creative team of Gorky Park develops a new concept for the winter season, which includes designing the entire infrastructure, the identity of the season, details of the cultural program, navigation, website, promotional videos, and other related communication materials.
For the season 2018/19, the “Factory of Happy People” was chosen from among numerous options for concepts — this is how the English writer Herbert Wells described the Moscow Central Park in 1934. We have created a new image of the rink — a factory producing happiness. According to our idea, at the central entrance to the park, next to the two main workshops (pavilions for skate rental), the main symbol of the industrial operations was located: a ten-meter pipe emitting white steam. Its image is often found in the identity of the rink.
When choosing materials for style media, emphasis was placed on the rational use of resources: invitation cards for the opening of the “Factory of Happy People” and card cases for VIPs were made from the remains of cellular polycarbonate, which was used to decorate the skate rental pavilions, and employees’ badges were made from PVC strip curtains , which was used for zoning the interior of the pavilions.
