Competition Brief

The IIDA Campus Center Awards 2026 honor exceptional work produced by all active IIDA Campus Centers. The awards showcase educational programs and activities which enable students to participate in their studies and develop their skills while serving the community through their work in interior design education. Campus Centers submit their most impactful projects completed during 2025 for consideration.

Intent

The awards aim to celebrate excellence in campus-level programming that strengthens the interior design community. This includes activities that help students gain knowledge and create professional relationships while they actively participate in their community through their leadership work which produces measurable outcomes.

Purpose

The purpose is to provide recognition and visibility to Campus Centers that have successfully executed impactful programs. Awarded projects serve as examples for other centers and help share best practices across the IIDA network.

Requirements

Only active IIDA Campus Centers may apply. Submissions must document a program, event, or initiative completed during 2025. The materials consist of one PowerPoint or Prezi presentation which contains 8 to 12 slides and one written statement which has a maximum length of 500 words and one 3 to 4 minute video and one short summary sentence which shows all major accomplishments.

Jury

The selection is made by a panel of design professionals and IIDA leadership appointed by the IIDA Foundation. The organization does not disclose the names of its judges. The evaluation process assesses both the quality and impact of the submitted program together with its effectiveness.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

The IIDA Foundation organizes the IIDA Campus Center Awards 2026 as a professional recognition program which does not function as a design competition. The judging panel information remains incomplete because there is no disclosure of judges names and assessment standards which creates a lack of transparency. The awards target campus-level programming and student engagement initiatives, not built projects, with rewards including recognition and a modest $1,000 prize. The requirements give participants two main benefits which include visibility and professional acknowledgment within the IIDA network but they do not provide opportunities to develop their portfolio or gain practical experience. The jury includes internal leaders and industry professionals, but their expertise remains undisclosed to the public.

Conclusion

The IIDA Campus Center Awards 2026 function as a recognition program rather than a traditional design competition. The awards assess program effectiveness on campus sites and their capacity to involve the community, which makes them different from project-based competitions such as the Adaptive Reuse Architecture Design Competition and the 2nd International Architecture Drawing Competition. The awards are accessible with no application fee, but the absence of published evaluation criteria and named jurors limits transparency. Architectural Competition Transparency provides information about award systems and design program assessment methods. The program delivers recognition to campus centers while providing them with guidance, although it does not assess their design work.
