Competition Brief

The KCMA Design Awards 2026 is a prestigious competition for professionals to showcase their architectural and interior design skills. It also enables the use of KCMA member cabinetry in the projects. This contest will showcase the most remarkable kitchen environments whose completion dates fall between January 1st, 2024, and December 31st, 2025. The contest is open to professionals in the USA and Canada, and the jury will evaluate the cabinetry in relation to the layout, functionality, and material quality of the kitchen.

Intent

The goal of the competition is to reward the best design solutions that showcase cabinetry being an integral part of the space with good planning. The projects are judged on how well they cater to the needs of the client and at the same time being aesthetically pleasing, and the daily use is also considered.

Purpose

The KCMA Design Awards competition sets the standard for top-quality works in kitchen and cabinetry design. The jury will evaluate and celebrate quality built work through the competition in the areas of good practices in design, material selection, and craftsmanship in the field of interior architecture.

Requirements

Professional designers, architects, and kitchen designers residing in the US or Canada can participate. All entries must consist of completed projects featuring cabinets made by currently active KCMA members. Besides the project descriptions detailing the design process and the results, visual documentation of the environment should also be included in the submissions. This may include before and after images where appropriate.

Jury

All submissions are subsequently assessed by the jury consisting of design, industry, and subject matter experts. The evaluation criteria for the projects are their creativeness, visual appeal, functionality of materials, and the overall effect on the environment. The names of the jury members are kept secret by the competition, however, they are chosen for their proficiency in design and judging.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

The KCMA Design Awards 2026 is a competition held by the Kitchen Cabinet Manufacturers Association, a professional organization from the USA and Canada, although the identities of the jury members are not revealed to the public. It is a professional competition that focuses on built kitchen and cabinetry projects; therefore, it is not a promotional or purely academic exercise. The participation is free, and the prizes of USD 1,000 and 500 plus sponsored attendance are modest in comparison to the documentation and quality standards required. The participants gain mainly from portfolio development and industry recognition, whilst the jury consists of leading design professionals and subject specialists adding credibility even though individuals’ limited transparency.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

The KCMA Design Awards 2026 tends to promote built work and practical design outcomes and not speculative ones. In fact, the competition’s emphasis on cabinetry as a spatial and functional element points to the ever more subtle role of interior architecture in people’s daily life. Although the project requirements are stressing on performance and quality, the entrants are advised to pay close attention to the project documentation and narrative clarity so as to be in line with the jury’s evaluative criteria. Making comparisons with broader design challenges like other awards that take into account the performance and community impact in interior and architectural contexts, can help to place the submissions within the contemporary professional practice.
