Book design for Mercabarna 2021 sustainability report, using abstract icons and color to represent and organize its chapters — efficiency, proximity, competitiveness, and safety, among others. These icons are embossed on the cover and printed on the book jacket to add visuals to a text-heavy and data-driven publication.
Each chapter uses its own color in different ways: 100% tint in the divider and headlines, 10% as background page color on some pages, and as duotone photography. The die-cut dividers allow seeing through the pages and align with the central idea of the report — transparency.
The book jacket unfolds to become a poster, containing a summary of the most important data and infographics from the publication. It allows for a general idea of the report in a glimpse, and it can function with or without the book.
