NeoCon 2025 Highlights: Innovations Redefining Commercial Design

Home » Architecture » NeoCon 2025 Highlights: Innovations Redefining Commercial Design

In the second week of June, over 50,000 design professionals descended upon Chicago for the annual NeoCon exhibition, hosted at The Mart. This premier three-day event transformed the iconic venue into a hub of cutting-edge design, featuring hundreds of exhibitors, immersive showrooms, and thought-provoking talks on the future of workspaces. Attendees explored innovations in office pods, sustainable materials, and biophilic design, while escaping the bustling trade floors for curated workshops and Windy City architectural tours. Below, we spotlight standout products that merge functionality, aesthetics, and sustainability each pushing the boundaries of commercial interiors.

1. Kaleido Vinyl Tile Collection by Armstrong Flooring

Armstrong’s latest luxury vinyl tile (LVT) line, Kaleido, redefines versatility with 28 saturated accent colors and three textile-inspired patterns. Designers can mix-and-match sizes (6″×36″, 18″×18″, 18″×36″) via an online customization tool, enabling seamless transitions between zones in open-plan offices. The collection’s scratch-resistant wear layer makes it ideal for high-traffic areas, while its low-VOC composition aligns with sustainability goals.

2. Framery One: The Smart Office Pod

Framery’s single-person pod combines advanced sound insulation, intuitive touch-screen controls, and energy-efficient ventilation. The 90″×48″×39″ unit features an adjustable electric desk, dual footrests, and a 95% end-of-life recyclability rate. Available in 12 hues, it’s a sleek solution for focus work in hybrid offices.

3. Astoria Conference Table by Halcon Furniture

Breaking the mold of rigid boardroom tables, Astoria offers customizable surfaces in stone, wood, glass, or acrylic resin. Integrated USB-C ports, power outlets, and discreet tech bays cater to modern workflows. Its scalable design suits both corporate and residential settings.

4. Grow Panels by The Good Plastic Company

These recycled polystyrene panels bring biophilic textures (inspired by mycelium and coral) to walls, floors, and countertops. The 110″×55″ sheets (½” or ¾” thick) are 100% circular-design certified, aligning with LEED and WELL building standards.

5. Flores Chairs by Okamura

Japanese craftsmanship shines in Okamura’s ergonomic chairs, featuring curved shells and upholstery options like Bouclé or denim-like fabric. Choose between a five-star swivel base or minimalist steel/wood legs. Perfect for task-intensive or collaborative settings.

6. Buzzispace’s Buzzibrella Acoustic Furniture

Resembling a sound-absorbing umbrella, Buzzibrella uses high-density foam and fabric panels to dampen noise in high-ceiling offices. Configurations include semi-enclosed “Focus” pods or open “Cloud” clusters, both with LED lighting and charging stations.

7. Turf Woodgrain Acoustic Panels

Turf’s new PET-felt panels mimic woodgrain patterns (Rift, Rotary, Flat Cut) in 32 pre-set hues. With ≥60% post-consumer recycled content, they merge aesthetics with eco-performance.

8. Re:Veil Biophilic Wall System

Developed with fractal geometry expert Dr. Richard Taylor, Re:Veil’s PVC-free walls feature organic textures like Fractional Bark, Moss, and River. A science-backed approach to biophilic design for wellness-centric spaces.

✦ ArchUp Editorial Insight

NeoCon 2025 showcased a compelling shift toward hybrid functionality—where office pods and acoustic furniture bridge productivity and privacy. While innovations like Framery One and Buzzibrella excel in addressing open-plan noise fatigue, some designs risk prioritizing form over scalability (e.g., Astoria’s high-end materials may limit budget adoption). Yet the overwhelming emphasis on circular materials from recycled polystyrene to PET-felt signals a laudable industry-wide commitment to sustainability. These strides prove commercial design can be both beautiful and regenerative, setting a benchmark for future exhibitions.
