Pura-Case

The Pura-Case by Carlo Ratti Associati is a distinctive enclosure that introduces effective commercial sanitization techniques into the home and workplace.

The broad consensus in society is that a “new normal” is beginning to take shape. One in which everyone needs to increase their level of caution and improve their hygiene practices. Pura-Case eliminates the majority of bacteria, viruses, and microbes from clothing and fabric to achieve this.

How come Pura-Case? allay growing consumer and small business concerns about the residual virus and bacterial contamination on clothing by making basic industrial cleaning technology available.

Pura-Case is perfect for persons who frequently interact with the public due to their jobs or lifestyle choices. It can also lessen the frequency of clothing cleaning, which lowers the requirement for power and water use and contributes to a more hygienic household environment.

The creators of Pura-Case are Carlo Ratti Associati.

Pura-Case by CRA-Carlo Ratti Associati on behalf of Scribit Creative Consultancy. The write-and-erase robot that can draw on glass and walls was developed by the startup Scribit. Pura Case was created at Scribit’s factory in Turin, and both businesses are situated in northern Italy.

Furthermore, a multinational design and innovation studio is Carlo Ratti Associati. Projects frequently relate to Carlo Ratti’s research at the Senseable City Lab at MIT, where he serves as Director, and are extensions of that work. Taking an “Omni-disciplinary approach,” the lab “speaks the language of designers, planners, engineers, physicists, biologists, and social scientists”. Carlo Ratti routinely presents on smart cities and has a Ph.D. from the University of Cambridge.

Moreover, the studio looks at how new technologies are altering how we perceive cities, how we develop them, and how we live our daily lives. Carlo Ratti Associati frequently incorporates digital sensors and portable devices into design solutions and employs data collection capabilities to inform design.

Three times—for the Digital Water Pavilion in 2007, the Copenhagen Wheel in 2014, and Scribit in 2019—the firm’s work is in Time Magazine’s list of “Best Inventions of the Year”. They also just finished a new plan for the waterfront in Lugano, Switzerland, working at a completely different scale, and Carlo Ratti was the curator of the “Eyes on the City” show at the Bi-City Biennale of UrbanismArchitecture of Shenzhen and Hong Kong, which included over 60 designs.

Materials & Methods -App-controlled, airtight ozone cleaning cycles

In a wardrobe setting, we can easily hang the portable case or leave it alone. At one time, up to four articles of clothes can fit inside to be purified. An ozone-based air purification system cleans and deodorizes the items.

In contrast to the dioxygen (O2) we breathe, ozone is a molecule consisting of three oxygen atoms, typically abbreviated as O3. It is a bright blue gas that develops spontaneously in our upper atmosphere when UV light and electrical activity interact. We frequently use it in industrial settings to deodorize, cleanse and sanitize items like laundry, fabrics, water, and rooms after a fire in addition to eradicating insects from grain.

Moreover, one purification cycle in the battery-operated enclosure takes around an hour to complete. It has an airtight zipper closure and is from environmentally friendly fabric to keep the ozone inside.

Additionally, once the cycle is complete, you can open the case since ozone quickly breaks down into O2. The Pura-Case app can be used to remotely initiate the cycle or control it via a panel on the case.

Elegant and practical in terms of design

The Pura-Case appears to be soft beige and bright minty green in images. Its straightforward case form has rounded top and bottom edges and is to be at home in a residential setting. It would also function well in a little workplace.

Design memento: Be flexible to meet shifting demands

After most manufacturing was shut down to combat the Coronavirus outbreak, Scribit diverted its resources, and Pura-Case was born. It has concentrated its efforts on creating items with a social benefit from March 2020.

Finally, the item itself is a direct reaction to society’s very fast change in priorities. According to Carlo Ratti, our clothing serves as a crucial point of contact with the world around us. Incorporating industrial processes into the residential setting, Pura-Case also rethinks technology and its application.
