Pininfarina announces the launch of its 2024/2025 Global Design Contest, inviting final-year students from selected schools worldwide specializing in mobility design, interaction design, and architecture. The contest theme, “Materiality, the Umami of Mobility,” challenges participants to envision future living and transportation, emphasizing the role of materials in innovative design solutions.
Contest Objective
Students are encouraged to create a comprehensive mobility experience, from vehicles to spaces, where materials address challenges like environmental sustainability, accessibility, and technological comfort. The designs should focus on human needs and desires, aiming to create an enchanting and memorable experience.
Eligibility
- Open to final-year students over 18 years old from invited universities and institutions in Mobility Design, Interaction Design, and Architecture.
- Participants must enter individually and submit only one project.

Design Focus
Participants should design mobility solutions for a target user group, looking ten years ahead. Contexts can include intra-urban, rural, inter-city, or inter-country settings, and may involve land, air, or water vehicles, as well as built environments.
Contest Structure
- Phase 1: Open to all registered students from the invited schools. From these, 20 participants will be shortlisted.
- Phase 2: Shortlisted participants receive one-to-one coaching with Pininfarina and time to refine their proposals. 10 participants will advance.
- Phase 3: Finalists undergo another coaching session and have three months to develop their final presentation, leading to the selection of winners.

- Initial Submissions: August 30, 2024 – September 27, 2024.
Evaluation and Prizes
Entries will be judged by a panel of Pininfarina designers, industry experts, and media partners. Winners will be announced in May 2025 during an award ceremony celebrating Pininfarina’s 95th anniversary. Prizes include internships or fixed-term assignments at Pininfarina’s offices, and a special “Paolo Pininfarina” prize.
