Launch of the Sahb Residential Project in Lazord Destination, Eastern Region
Design Inspired by the Coastal Environment
Located near Half Moon Beach and the King Fahd Bridge, the Sahb project uses simple horizontal lines and open spaces to admit natural light. However, the architectural style largely ignores the traditional elements of Gulf architecture, such as shaded forms, arches, and local ornamental details, reducing its visual connection to the regional coastal identity. Locally sourced sandy materials harmonize with the surroundings, but the overall architectural experience feels generic and culturally unremarkable.
Urban Layout Balancing Privacy and Openness
The 753 villas are arranged to balance private and open areas, with green spaces and internal pathways providing some connection to nature. Yet, the design prioritizes functional simplicity over a distinct architectural identity, while the limited variation in façades creates a repetitive visual impression, reducing engagement for residents and visitors.
Residential Experience within the Urban Context
Part of the Lazord Destination, the project is close to the King Fahd Bridge, allowing easy access to neighboring cities. Despite this, the architectural style does not reflect the rich Gulf heritage. As a result, the development feels like a generic modern residential project rather than an authentic local experience.
✦ ArchUp Editorial Insight
The project offers a clear layout of open spaces and emphasizes natural ventilation and daylighting. These features enhance daily comfort and create a functional living environment. However, from an urban design perspective, the development overlooks traditional Gulf architectural elements, such as shaded structures, arches, and local decorative motifs. This omission reduces its ability to convey a distinctive coastal architectural character. It also represents a missed opportunity to enrich the residential experience and better connect the villas to the coastal environment and regional cultural heritage.
