Situated at an impressive altitude of 2,735 meters in the Alps, the mountain shelter crafted by Italian studio Senoner Tammerle Architekten stands as a testament to innovative design and harmonious integration with its natural surroundings. Clad in galvanized steel, the shelter’s distinctive exterior reflects the ever-changing hues of the sky, seamlessly blending into the mountain landscape.

A Contemporary Homage to Tradition

Drawing inspiration from the iconic Shelter Santnerpass of the 1950s, the new structure reimagines traditional Alpine architecture for the modern era. Its triangular form, constructed from sturdy spruce wood, offers both resilience and efficiency, ensuring swift assembly even in the harshest alpine conditions.

Embracing the Elements: Design Features

The shelter comprises two levels, with the ground floor housing communal spaces such as a bar and restaurant. Expansive windows and a spacious terrace invite visitors to savor panoramic views of the mountains while enjoying a meal or drink. At the rear, practical amenities including a kitchen, office, and restrooms cater to the needs of guests and staff alike.

Tranquil Retreat: Bedrooms in the Clouds

Ascending to the upper floors reveals a series of cozy bedrooms, each offering a peaceful haven for overnight guests. The warmth of exposed spruce wood envelops visitors, while strategically placed windows frame breathtaking vistas of the surrounding landscape. Sustainability in Focus: Material Selection

In keeping with modern principles of sustainability, wood emerges as the material of choice for the shelter’s construction. Beyond its ecological credentials, wood’s lightweight nature and excellent insulation properties make it ideally suited for alpine environments. The thoughtful integration of prefabricated elements further enhances efficiency and minimizes environmental impact.
