This Bilbao home’s sinuous blue walls flow through it like ocean waves, allowing the small area to accommodate the diverse demands of a young couple and their son. The residence, created by Tenka Arkitektura, is situated on the top floor of a house from the 1960s and is called Burgatoi after a nautical term for a piece of curved wood used in shipbuilding. The idea of constructing a curve that runs through the house originated with the designers’ desire to reinforce the sensation of fluidity and create a single continuous area in order to address the issues the building presented.

The room had a small L-shaped configuration at first, with ventilation provided by structural beams. An outside patio and curving wall were built to the home to further define the functional zones, dividing busy activity hubs like the kitchen from more tranquil spaces like the living room. The designers claim that the wall “ultimately determines and articulates the relationship between public and private rooms.” “With a geometry that would move away from a compartmentalized and straight form, favoring more fluid daily relations, we sought to give the house its personality,” the authors write.

The promenade architecturale is a design principle borrowed from Le Corbusier. “The curve itself is able to transmit a fluid space, maximizing its flexibility,” the designers continue.

Because the views are protected and the space is opened up without the need for enclosures. There is no need for unneeded compartmentalization within the home.

Moreover, The wall’s fluted cladding intensifies the appearance of its wavelike shape and enables light to produce rhythmic movement patterns. The house needed to convey brightness, serenity, elegance, and delight, the designers write. “We think the blue color palette responds to all these sensations.”

Regarding the sleeping quarters, a narrow hallway winds up a hill toward the master bedroom. Also, is the highest and most open space in the home. The bedroom, which includes a bathing area and a dressing room, serves as the conclusion of the modern design throughout.

Furthermore, Everything in the space mimics the expansive views on board a ship at sea, down to the continuous gray epoxy resin floor.
