The balance between simplicity and functionality in workspace design

A Design Rooted in Simplicity

The studio is a 100-square-meter rectangular space in a quiet office building, connected to a typical corridor. Its design is precise and angular, except for a small area with a lowered ceiling due to overhead pipes, adding a subtle break to the uniformity.

Landscaping Arrangement in the Corridor

To avoid monotony, we decided to incorporate design elements that bring more vitality to the space. We adopted the concept of a “picturesque arrangement in the corridor,” based on design principles that regulate the flow of movement and aesthetics. These principles include unified entry and exit points and the use of partitions for separation.

The Door Wing as a Design Element

The “unified entry and exit” concept ensures the office is not directly visible from the corridor by incorporating a “door wing” with a unique ceiling and clear boundaries. A concealed glass door and a semi-transparent wooden door, often left open, add an informal and fluid feel to the space.

Balancing Movement and Stability

We introduced the “Ridge Island” element to separate movement paths. It consists of low, movable bookshelves that can be rearranged as needed. When the shelves are removed, the space transforms into an open area suitable for small meetings, achieving a balance between privacy and interaction.

A Corridor Enhancing Functionality and Ritual

The corridor divides the office into distinct work zones using specialized materials that inspire creative thinking. It features lower walls made of marine and perforated wooden panels that provide privacy, while the transparent upper sections allow natural light to flow through, creating a sense of spaciousness.

A Creative Lighting Solution

The “Two Conversations and One Tea” area combines a meeting room, a phone booth, and a tea bar, offering efficient communication spaces. Inside the phone booth, we designed an innovative “air-conditioning duct hole” to direct natural light into the dark space, adding both functionality and aesthetic appeal.

Balancing Privacy and Interaction

The primary goal of the office design is to strike a balance between privacy and interaction. Through a harmonious and flexible design, we created a workspace that reflects freedom and values individuality, making it an ideal environment for creativity and productivity.
