Competition Brief

The Water Tower Competition 2025 is a global contest of architectural design that calls for the innovators to change the old Water Tower in Milanino’s Garden City into a dynamic and modern cultural center that the locals can use. The competition where the elaboration of the new and the old structures, with the creation of cultural rooms, co-working areas, exhibition, terraces, micro-plazas, and meeting spots is included, is very imaginative. With the urban and community life enrichment, flexibility is created. Keeping the historical part of the building core and using it as a platform for further development through the interaction, creativity, and innovation coming along with the connection of the social forces.

Intent

The competition wants to put forward architects, designers, urbanists, and all kinds of creative professionals to submit their most out-there and trendy design concepts which can bring back a decaying industrial landmark to a lively cultural CAUSE for all ages.

Purpose

The purpose is to create new architectural ideas that will modernize the existing ones by incorporating the new functions. The proposals will imply that architecture can help in building up the community spirit, nurturing the cultural activities and even going along with the changes of the neighborhood needs by keeping the architectural standards and the environment-friendly design practices.

Requirements

The participants can belong to any category starting from students, architects, designers, engineers, or artists, to urbanists, makers, activists, or any person in general interested in architectural design. The submissions can be by individuals or by groups. Besides, the submission should consist of two A1 horizontal panels and a text that briefly describes the design concept. There are no limitations regarding the nationality or the country of residence, and a team can consist of people from different countries.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

The Water Tower Competition 2025 organized by TerraViva Competitions grants access to submission requirements, deadlines and jury compositions with experienced architects, educators, and design professionals from Italy and the Netherlands being part of the jury. The competition is clearly professional and internationally oriented, with the main concern of adaptive reuse and urban revitalization rather than promotion. In terms of the total amount of the prizes, which is 16,000 €, these are not very high considering the conceptual and design efforts required, yet they are accompanied by publication and exhibition opportunities. Besides, the participants obtain practical value through portfolio development, professional exposure, and design experimentation. The jury’s documented expertise in architecture, heritage, and innovation backs up a credible evaluation process for the submitted works.

Conclusion

The Water Tower Competition 2025 provides a well-organized platform for the designers to interact with the architectural heritage and the present community needs. Its clearly defined requirements, international jury and balanced prizes offer visibility, professional recognition and creative exploration as their potentials. The competition’s aim of turning a local landmark into a cultural and social center indicates a strong dedication to both architectural innovation and urban revitalization.
