Our newest lookbook looks at homes that incorporate benches or banquettes to act as inviting places to sit around the dining table while conserving space. These built-in seats are popular in kitchens and dining rooms where a table works better when placed on a wall than in the centralized area. A permanent bench is perfect in properties with small spaces since you could fit more people in than a group of chairs alone. It also doubles as a creative way of offering extra storage under the bench itself. The most straightforward design entails placing the bench along one side of the table and adding dining chairs on the other side, though this can vary depending on the room’s layout. It’s essential to make sure that the legs of the table do not interfere with the base of the bench, allowing people to get up and down with ease. We are presenting 10 nominative examples, from a restrained London terrace to a homey and sensuous family home in Melbourne. This is the most recent edition of our lookbook series, wherein we provide design ideas from Dezeen’s archive. For more inspiration, our latest lookbooks cover gorgeous, colorful shower rooms and kitchens with absorbent tiled countertops.
