The Seoul Twin Eye spokeless Ferris wheel, which will be built as an intersecting double-ring tower above a cultural complex, has its design unveiled by the Dutch firm UNStudio.

The 180-meter-tall Ferris wheel, which was created in partnership with Arup and Heerim Architects, will be erected next to the World Cup Stadium in the city beside the Han River. After the closing of the Ain Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, when it is finished, it will be the largest Ferris wheel in the world.

The dual-ringed design of UNStudio was inspired by Honcheonsigye, a 17th-century South Korean astronomical clock.

According to the studio, the Ferris wheel will feature two 180-meter-diameter tracks that will combine to create loops that represent unity.

With 64 passenger pods overall, each holding 20–25 people and accommodating up to 1,400 people at once, the tracks will have twice the capacity of the London Eye, which was created by Marks Barfield Architects.

The pods that protrude from the structural rings will spin around Seoul Twin Eye’s exterior and interior. Therefore, offering visitors two unique rides.

A 40-meter-tall podium that houses the Ferris wheel will create a new cultural center attached to the World Cup Stadium.

In addition to stores, eateries, and cafes, the podium will have a performance theater and an exhibition area.

UNStudio is also designing the monorail that will link the Seoul Twin Eye to neighboring public transport.

An additional feature of the studio’s layout is a zip line experience.

The project is intended to be a part of the local government’s larger goal to create additional public and cultural areas along the Han River.

The attraction is scheduled to open in 2028, with construction expected to start in 2025.

Ben van Berkel and Caroline Bos launched UNStudio in 1998; it now includes offices in Shanghai, Hong Kong, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and Hong Kong.
