Home » Competitions » URBAN DESIGN AND ARCHITECTURAL COMPETITION KODAŇSKÁ 1441 2026

Competition Brief

Intent

The design competition is looking for something new and interesting for Kodaňská 1441 site in Vršovice which is located in Prague. The main idea is to create a new mixed place consisting of a residential area, ground floor retail, a kindergarten, and public spaces, which will all together improve the street environment and be of great addition to the local facilities.

Purpose

The contest seeks to discover the most urban and architectural proposals that would be the most quality and would at the same time be the best compromise between being functional, pleasing from the aesthetic point of view, ecological, and engaging with the society. The design of the winning proposal would then be the basis for the further development of the project that would include planning, detailed documentation, and supervision of construction.

Requirements

The competition will have very few participants, and it will not be anonymous. The best 5 to 7 applicants will be chosen based on their portfolios. Then the best 3 to 4 competitors will move on to phase 2. The submissions are to be made in both English and Czech. The participants may choose to work alone or in groups. There will be an opportunity for the jury and client to communicate through workshops during the engagement.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review

Kodaňská 1441 competition was organized by Daramis in cooperation with the City of Prague and Prague 10, accompanied by an open jury that includes both independent and dependent members. The latter are professional architects and city officials. We can say that it is an event of a very professional and academic-focused nature—an urban design competition, instead of a promotional activity. The reimbursement to the winners has been divided into Phase One and Phase Two, and it is considerable as well as aligned with the rigorous design demands. Winning the competition is not the only reward. The interaction with the client and jury is a great learning experience for the participants; they get to work on real-life implementations of their proposals. The jury has a strong foundation of architectural, planning, and municipal expertise.

Conclusion and Final Thoughts

Kodaňská 1441 competition is a well-organized, two-phased urban design competition where the jury and stakeholders interaction is put to the forefront. Participants are required to achieve very well the interplay among residential, retail and public space in a delicate urban setting. The competition does not require any entry fees, and the expenses for the selected participants are mostly covered. Because of the limited number of places and the rigorous submission requirements it will be mainly suited for the experienced teams with the best portfolios that are able to deliver top-class urban and architectural design.
