Verse Control Kit allows kids to fully immerse themselves in the metaverse

Entry-level “tool kit” makes it easier for younger generations to participate in the metaverse by Ha-Yeon Yoo and Ye-Jin Kim.

Even though the metaverse may not exist yet, designers will undoubtedly have a significant impact on how its designs and functions. That called for concepts that were future-oriented right now, similar to the Vers line…

Ha-Yeon Yoo and Ye-Jin Kim created a concept set of tools geared at introducing young children to the metaverse. The Vers collection is especially for Generation Alpha, or people born between 2010 and now who have grown up in a fully digital world.

Therefore, it consists of a selection of game controllers offering the versatility in settings where virtual and real worlds coexist.

Vers comprises a number of devices, including a set of controllers, both of which have ergonomic proportions and thoughtfully positioned buttons to allow each device to perform four times as many tasks. By just flipping them, you may use them as a pistol in a game or to control the screen, according to Kim. “We worked hard on choosing where to position certain buttons for easy use of both modes,” the author said.

Yoo and Kim have also incorporated two pads created to engage the complete body in order to accommodate the fully immersive experience that the metaverse promises. Simply by standing on top of them, players can simulate jogging or walking in games that call for it.

Each pad has a silicone base to avoid slipping and magnetic edges to hold pads close to eachother as necessary. The final component is a portable camera console that records every event.

A design that thinks ahead

Vers adheres to the general trend for smart home technologies in terms of design. It has a simple design and complements it with a neutral color scheme of whites and grays. The designers used a hexagonal form for all gadgetS, which serves as a leitmotif and gives the collection cohesiveness. The “controller box,” a hub-like device that doubles as a speaker with a discreet design intended to sit perfectly next to other smart devices inside the home, has the same aesthetic.

It’s exciting to respond to a notion that hasn’t yet been fully realized. Since it brings to light prospective opportunities that design may one day need to address. Moreover, with the Vers collection, Yoo and Kim aim to foster children’s comprehension of the metaverse, much how younger generations in the new century focused on computer skills and more recent generations have emphasized coding as a crucial talent.

It also highlights a different design topic of interest: the remote control. We’ve seen various interpretations that aim to simplify their use while also taking accessibility concerns into account. Yoo and Kim’s innovative approach recognizes the need for children to express themselves and have fun in the Metaverse.
