Overview

The What Design Can Do (WDCD) Accelerator 2025 is calling on a new generation of design leaders to shape a circular future! This open call invites designers and creative entrepreneurs worldwide to submit their applications by 31 March 2025 for a chance to join a global network of innovators.

Winners will enter a dedicated online accelerator programme designed to help bring their projects to the next level. The programme supports social and creative enterprises that use design as a tool for sustainability and regenerative growth, focusing on three key areas:

  • Creativity (Mindset)
  • Entrepreneurship (Toolset)
  • Leadership (Skillset)

At the core of the programme is an intensive Sprint Week in Amsterdam, where winning teams connect, learn, and collaborate. Over five days, participants will:

  • Present their ideas
  • Meet mentors
  • Visit Dutch design studios
  • Attend masterclasses on circular design, strategy, and entrepreneurship

Who Can Apply?

The open call welcomes designers and creative entrepreneurs worldwide working on climate solutions in diverse fields, including:

  • Product design
  • Materials innovation
  • Storytelling & media
  • Systems & services
  • Urban design

A minimum of 8 winning teams will be selected based on:

  • Impact (Does it drive sustainable change?)
  • Design & creativity (Is it innovative and compelling?)
  • Feasibility & scalability (Can it be implemented and expanded?)
  • Team & network (Is there a strong team behind the idea?)

Stages of Innovation

Applicants can apply at any stage of development:

  • Idea Stage: A strong concept with a compelling vision but no proof of concept.
  • Early Stage: A core team with a working prototype or service, focusing on refinement and business development.
  • Mature Stage: An established enterprise looking to scale impact and strengthen its organization.
