2024 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition

The Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) and ET Foundation are hosting the 2024 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition, which challenges this year’s students and professional designers, architects, and engineers to design a product or system featuring aluminum extrusions.

Aluminum Extruders Council (AEC) and ET Foundation are hosting the 2024 Aluminum Extrusion Design Competition. Inviting students and professional designers, architects, and engineers worldwide to participate.

Designers and engineers from around the world are invited to share their vision for the future using aluminum extrusions.

This year’s challenge is to design a product or system featuring aluminum extrusions. The design must be original and make use of at least one extruded aluminum component. Your design materials and product explanation should highlight extrusion’s many advantages.

Students have a unique way of looking at the world, making them well-qualified to offer creative solutions to design challenges.

Winning entries will be those that best demonstrate the benefits of aluminum extrusions. Whether by inventing a new product or improving an existing one – by achieving the following objectives:
Creativity: innovative design, new application capability, methods to meet a new design challenge
Practicality: ease of fabrication and assembly, cost-effectiveness, use of extruded aluminum over other materials or processes, will a typical size extrusion press be able to produce your shape? Refer to the Design Tips section for more information.
Product/Process improvement: customization or improvement of extrusion processes, close tolerances, taking full advantage of extrusion capabilities to improve a product
Market Potential: design/product marketability and likelihood of market success.

Winning designs will be displayed at the 13th International Aluminum Extrusion Technology Seminar and Exposition – ET ’24, the aluminum extrusion industry’s most prestigious industry technical event. This event covers nearly all aspects of aluminum extrusion technology, including processes, alloys, equipment, die design, applications, and more.

The 2024 competition is open to entries from Student and Professional designers, architects, and engineers.

A total of $15,500 in scholarship awards for top designs from students and $10,000 in cash awards for the best designs from professionals, plus a $3,500 Grand Prize awarded across all categories and classes, are available for this year.
