AIANY + ASLANY Transportation and Infrastructure Design Excellence Awards 2026
Competition Brief
The AIANY + ASLANY Transportation and Infrastructure Design Excellence Awards honor outstanding architectural work in transportation and infrastructure design which United States architects and landscape architects and planners have created. Both built and unbuilt projects are recognised for design excellence, innovation, and impact. For context on how infrastructure shapes urban life, see our article on Urban Infrastructure and Design.
The awards aim to highlight projects that demonstrate sustainable practices, civic engagement, and inclusive public space creation. The AIANY and ASLANY program which includes regional AIA chapters as partners shows how transportation and infrastructure design affects community health. Professional Design Practice offers a comprehensive examination of various design methods used by professionals in their work.
Intent
The program exists to honor outstanding transportation and infrastructure work which encompasses multiple areas of achievement including structures and planning and open space and conceptual work and student projects. The awards highlight projects which combine innovation with sustainable practices and civic design elements.

✦ ArchUp Competition Review
The AIANY + ASLANY Transportation and Infrastructure Design Excellence Awards 2026 are organised by established professional bodies, AIANY and ASLANY, with a jury of registered architects, landscape architects, and urban planners, which supports a credible evaluation process. The competition recognizes professional and academic standards through its dual recognition of actualized transportation systems and design-based transportation systems. The entry fees establish a range which starts at $25 for students and ends at $310 for non-members because these fees match the award’s prestigious value and extensive range. The main advantage for participants comes from gaining professional recognition which helps them build their portfolios. The jury can conduct proficient evaluations through their expertise although public evaluation standards exist only in minimal detail.
Conclusion
The AIANY + ASLANY Transportation and Infrastructure Design Excellence Awards emphasize the connection between architecture and landscape design and urban planning which exists within transportation projects. The program evaluates existing and planned projects through its assessment framework which includes network integration and place-making and environmental consideration and innovative elements. The multiple award levels create different recognition opportunities which registered professionals and students can access. Projects which successfully address social, environmental, and civic needs will achieve success. For insights on design impact in urban environments, see Urban Resilient Design.
