Arch-Station - Competition to design a workstation for architects

Architecture Competition: Arch-Station – Competition to design a workstation for architects

Architects’ workspace

A worldwide study of people across countries suggests that the highest amount of time that people today spend is highest at their workplaces. Nearly every country has millions of people who spend 6 to 10 hours of their time in their workspace. That is surprisingly higher in comparison to the time spent at home or anywhere else. So it would be safe to say that we spend a hefty amount of time at our workplace than we think we do.

For some of us, the definition of workspace is different, but as architects, we share the same concept in our workspaces. Across our complete disciplines, the idea of a workspace is important as the work we do in different niches of our field requires some specific things that bind us together.

Let that be the work of urban or interior or conservation. The workspace concept and the amount of time we spend at it stay the same.

Modern workstation needs

The same notion has continued to stay with us until the onset of the pandemic, which has led to a drastic change in the work culture. Starting from masks to isolation and remote working everything changed. Including the concept and understanding, we head towards our workspace.

Today when we work remotely, we can be anywhere and work from any space. Which even though was tough in the beginning considering how unprecedented this event was. Over time, it has made architects work from spaces we never thought we would be working from. From our beds to the couch in the living room, our conceptual understanding of our workstation transitioned in less than a year. While this has caused certain limitations in our working methodologies, it has also opened us to the vast scope of innovation that is possible in our own space. The very space where we design everything for everyone. Can we make the most integral part of our day more efficient?

Can our workstation adapt to the work shift as well as our daily needs?

Brief of the Competition

Designing a workstation/desk might have crossed our minds back in design school on how our desk can be super optimized and recreated into something that will aid and help you during your unending nights. And as fast as this thought arrived, equally fast it left from your fatigued conciseness.

In current circumstances, there is an opportunity to design a workstation that will help to bring the seriousness of an office desk to the comfort of our homes.

How can we design a workstation that is flexible, efficient, and comfortable for all architects?

Brief: The aim of this challenge is to reimagine and design an architect’s workstation that is equipped enough to work as a stand-alone product in any location or space.

This challenge aims to challenge you to expand your perceptions and design a dream workstation that innovates the workstation concept totally.
