Overview:

The Indian Institute of Architects, Cochin (IIA, Cochin), invites architects worldwide to participate in the Monsoon Architecture Awards – 2025 (MAA). The awards, established in 2017 as part of the Living Monsoon Program, aim to recognize exceptional architectural projects from the Monsoon Climatic Region over the last five years. The competition celebrates designs that demonstrate resilience, sensitivity to climate, environment, and society.

  • Categories:
    • Category A: Single Family Residential
    • Category B: Multiple Family Residential
    • Category C: Leisure/Resort/Hospitality
    • Category D: Institutions/Workplaces/Commercial
    • Category E: Public Spaces (Above 300 sq.m)
    • Category F: Monsoon City – Placemaking Competition
  • Eligibility Criteria:
    • Architects must be members of a recognized council, association, institute, or society of architects in their country.
    • Projects must be located in the Tropical Monsoon or Tropical Rainforest regions (Koppen Geiger Climate Classification).
    • Submissions should be for projects completed between April 1, 2019, and the present (1st April 2019-present).
    • Projects previously submitted for Monsoon Architecture Awards cannot be resubmitted.

  • Winners of each category will be recognized at the Monsoon Architecture Festival (MAF) held on 28th and 29th March 2025 at the Grand Hyatt, Kochi, India.

Submission Details:

  • Participants can submit any number of entries.
  • Materials submitted will become the property of IIA Cochin and may be published or displayed at their discretion, with proper credit to the architect. (Materials will only be used for non-commercial purposes.)

The eminent jury panel will evaluate projects based on:

  • Resilience to the tropical monsoon climate.
  • Environmental sensitivity and sustainability.
  • Social impact and responsiveness.
  • Innovation in design and use of materials.
