Altqadum, an esteemed architecture studio, proudly presents the Bab Al Salam Mosque in Muscat, Oman. Recently unveiled to the public, this mosque stands as a contemporary marvel, blending innovative design with traditional Omani heritage.

Architectural Vision

The mosque was conceived with the aim of becoming an iconic and sustainable structure, serving as both an architectural monument and an educational beacon for students of architecture. Altqadum sought to create a timeless design that embodies the essence of contemporary architecture while paying homage to Omani heritage and culture.

Geometric Elegance

The Bab Al Salam Mosque is composed of five geometric volumes, each carefully designed to optimize acoustic and environmental performance. The mosque’s distinctive cone-shaped minaret serves as a focal point, guiding worshippers towards a spiritual experience from the moment they set eyes on the building.

Worshipper’s Journey

Altqadum prioritized the worshipper’s experience, designing a seamless transition from the exterior to the interior spaces. Visitors are greeted by lush gardens and water features before entering the prayer halls. Thus, culminating in a serene and tranquil atmosphere conducive to spiritual reflection.

Architectural Elements

The mosque’s design features rounded forms with a subtle rose hue, reminiscent of Oman’s majestic mountains. The largest volume houses the men’s prayer hall, adorned with clerestory windows and a glazed section indicating the direction of prayer. Moreover, The tallest volume contains the female prayer space and is crowned by a striking cone-like minaret.

Altqadum opted for a minimalist approach, eschewing elaborate decorative elements to enhance the worshipper’s experience. The absence of engravings or decorative calligraphy on the walls ensures an uncluttered environment conducive to prayer and meditation.
