Create a Rubik’s cube house,
The homeowner is a successful furniture maker,
and he and his family plan to move back to their hometown to live with their parents in the country.
This newly constructed residence is located at the intersection of industrial and agricultural areas in Taichung, Taiwan.
How to build a house for a family of three generations with limited site space
and messy surroundings is the biggest challenge in this project.
As a result, architect Chi Wang developed some design strategies in response to the challenges.
-
Four squares in one
He proposed an interesting geometric cube with a system of 2 by 2 belts, containing 13 floors in an area of 3 floors.
The openness between the different floor levels leads to a dynamic
of space that creates a tight but unbroken family relationship between the three generations.
-
Scenery framing holes
This house presents an interesting louvre design,
upward openings that allow people to look into the sky and ensure the privacy of the house.
The descending opening extends into the farmland landscape while blocking sunlight from the west.
Other openings, framing landscapes, filter out the chaotic environmental elements.
However, the opening to the outside on the ground floor also serves as a showcase for the owner-designed furniture.
-
Swinging stairs under the skylight
The light at different times falls like a waterfall.
Through the layers of stairs in the lobby, sunlight not only connects the different living spaces,
but also allows us to see the multiple spaces and enchanting scenery between the shuttles.
The architect expects to create a simple and rich daily life through the vibrant space in this small project.
