Salon Alper Derinbogaz created interiors with amorphous furniture for Reflect Studio,

a design and manufacturing brand focused on apparel and everyday objects.

Named Reflect Studio Store, the project appears as a series of two stores created specifically for the brand to reflect the mission and identity of Reflect Studio.

The completion of the two stores, located in Istanbul, Turkey,

shows how textiles and architectural practices are brought together in one space.

The architect has worked closely with Reflect Studio’s creative director Furkan Temir

“who articulates a vision for the brand inspired by enthusiasm for what’s to come.”

Project features

The cabin is designed as a simple, tech-enabled, and streamlined space,

featuring amorphous, rose-gray shelves.

Freeze-weave seat, water ripple chamber, wing seat, and sigma side hanger.

Alper Derinboğaz, founder of the salon, also took cues from natural shapes and combined them with the advanced possibilities of technology,

Including artificial intelligence (AI) and boat building technology.

These spaces reflect a more optimistic and somewhat romantic view of the future,

aiming for an updated approach to modernity in the new post-Covid era.

The generation process mimics the evolutionary approach of nature

Furniture design also emerges as an updated depiction of an ever-evolving relationship with nature, by focusing on the use of up cycling processes.

Instead of designing finished objects, the studio adopted a generative process that mimics the evolutionary approach of nature.

To act as an iterative process to create furniture shapes designed by AI.

Through the use of boat building technology,

these digital shapes have been transformed into physical objects with high precision.

Concepts of new nature, futuristic optimism, fluidity, and object autonomy

The aim of the project was to take the commercial motives of shopping experiences to another level,

as it explores extraordinary ideas, the future of sustainability and the ordering of the unique nature of materials.

The inherently experimental nature of space is meant to embody a future reset to current perceptions.

The store, which was brought to life with equal input from AI algorithms and human factors, became

A space where humans and non-human things can interact with each other in a new nature.

Components of the project

The store consists of a maker’s area, three showrooms, a changing room,

a storeroom and a checkout area.

While the game of geometry derives from the creation of process and materials,

the team is concerned with the arrangement of space, with the goal of bringing a shared,

boundary-pushing optimism about the future of space design.

The muted interior features recycled terrazzo metallic floors, a frosted fabric seat,

a water ripple changing unit, sigma profile hangers, a green airplane wing seat,

and artificial intelligence-generated furniture.

Futuristic elements become the design protagonists to shape the physical space of Reflect Studio stores.

Recycle waste to produce new materials

The basic principle of the project is based on the recycling of production waste,

which has been tested in detail.

The reason for this was to look at the new nature of furniture, to see what it means to be sustainable in this new normal.

The project seeks to create various experimental compounds with production techniques that recycle surplus materials,

which belong to the stages of textile production and architectural practices.

The studio used parts from recycled aluminum to create recycled metallic terrazzo floors, which feature a band of black chips.

Frozen fabric chair was made from leftover fabrics obtained from the textile production stages.

The fabrics were fixed with resin and transformed into a frosted fabric chair,

and the epoxy resin shelves were recycled,

obtained from the plastic packaging bags that were accumulated as a result of the production process.

The water ripple changing chamber, made with a reflective steel sheet stamping process, adds dynamism and energy.

In front of the changing room, the team adds a green seat to the wing of the aircraft,

reduces the thickness of the metal section used and reflects the aerodynamic body profile.

Designed to drive the idea of DIY, Sigma profiles are used to allow for quick,

mechanical and versatile hanger design capabilities.
