Charlotte Perriand

She is a French modern designer artist, considered among the overlooked pioneers of the industry.

She worked as a furniture designer after studying it, and then was fired by Le Corbusier,

claiming that his office “does not embroider pillows”.

However, her work was shown at the Salon d’Automne,

which led to her appointment by the architect as a furniture designer in his office.

Perriand is known to have produced three of Le Corbusier’s most iconic chairs: the B301, B306 and LC2 Grand Comfort.

The designer expressed her participation in many left-wing organizations in the 1930s,

founding the Union of Contemporary Artists in 1937.

In doing so she began to implement the “humanism” of Le Corbusier’s work, allowing her designs to become practical, attractive, and affordable furniture for the masses.

In 1940, Periand was invited to travel to Japan to become an advisor to the Ministry of Trade and Industry.

Then, after World War II, she was arrested by a naval blockade and forced into exile in Vietnam,

where she studied Oriental design, weaving and woodwork, which greatly influenced her later designs.
