Shaw Contract, a global flooring company, revealed the winners of its 2023 Design Awards in a video produced by Dezeen for the brand. Among the five awardees were a hotel overlooking a Japanese castle and a neurodiversity-friendly office building. This 18th edition of the awards celebrated spaces from around the world that had an impact on living, working, learning, and healing.

From a selection of over 650 project submissions from 40 countries, a panel of design professionals chose five Best of Globe winners from the 39 regional winners. The award for its OMO5 Kumamoto by Hoshino Resorts hotel, located in the centre of Kumamoto City, Japan and overlooking Kumamoto Castle, went to architecture studio Tatsuro Sasaki. The structure has been built nestled into the landscape to blend with its surroundings. Find out the Design Awards 2023 Winners

Four workplace designs were honoured, such as the Toronto headquarters of Boston Consulting Group, masterfully designed by HOK.

Its open spaces permit natural light to fill the office, and circadian lighting is integrated to adapt to people’s natural rhythms and boost output. Another lauded design was the 345 North Morgan office by Eckenhoff Saunders, situated close to Chicago’s metro lines. Its design is inspired by classic train stations and takes influence from the area’s strong industrial background.

Swot Design Group’s Naelofar Office in Petaling Jaya, Malaysia was given a prize due to its intention to strengthen connections and teamwork in the work area.

It has meeting areas with walls constructed from sliding glass that can be regulated to make larger areas for training programs or other activities. Another awardee is Rezen Studio’s Newmont office in Subiaco, Australia, which is said by Shaw Contract to illustrate “a swiftly changing office structure to suit changes in businesses operations”.

Shaw Contract asserted that design has the power to revolutionize the world and foster a more optimistic future for both people and the environment.

Consequently, the Shaw Contract Design Awards programme carries paramount importance to them. This programme not only highlights those designers that share the same mission of generating a positive effect in all interior spaces, but also rewards them with a $2,000 USD charitable donation directed to the charity of their preference. Furthermore, as part of this gesture, each winner was given a trophy, constructed by Singapore-based artist Kelly Limerick, made from Shaw Contract’s recycled yarn.
