Blancostudio encased a pottery shop with walls of terracotta to represent handcrafted ceramic tableware within a simple building.

The 35 square meter building is named after Tanah Pottery in Ubud, Bali, Indonesia.

Designed with Bali Landscape Company, it offers a Zen garden seating area with a piece of tranquility.

Painted in the simplest design, the building was envisioned as a craftsman’s studio specializing in handmade ceramic tableware.

The project was intended to mirror their first pottery shop aiming to capture the essence of 100 percent handmade stoneware.

BlancoStudio, led by Balinese architect and designer Conchita Blanco, said:

“Tanah means ‘earth’ in Indonesian, we wanted to tell their story by building the entire store out of the ground.”

The shop walls represent a major image of the project as the walls were made of rocky earth.

According to the studio, “The rammed earth is mixed with the remains of crushed terracotta tiles which results in a matching rose-colored walls and texture on the wall.”
