Designed to captivate the eye with an immersive experience, Architecture and Interior Design Studio El Departamento has entirely enveloped the PJ Lobster eyewear store in Barcelona in a spectrum of green hues. Drawing upon human instinct from the prehistoric era when our eyes were trained to detect the slightest variations in green tones, El Departamento explains, “This is what we aimed for here—trigging a visual challenge through a range of greens!” The modest, monochrome 40-square-meter shop in El Born district features walls, floors, and stucco ceilings in seafoam green, each tone and texture differentiated from one another. At the core of their design was the short documentary, “Powers of Ten” by Charles and Ray Eames, which looks into the scales of the universe and takes a jump from macro to micro. Furthermore, This influence ofPJ Lobster’s interior as design elements move strategically from smooth and velvety textures to more coarse and rough textures. Stainless steel plays an important role in the shop, too, crafted into banks of display shelving to frame the eyewear pieces and placed against walls with a blobby texture. A capsule-like counter with a mirrored top and high-gloss finish contrasts the pleather curtain and carpeted floor. Flanking the counter, an examination area of a soft and hard mix of textures. Therefore, allowing for a truly organic evolution of the brand and its products. “We chose textures that speak of the precision of the products, showcasing that organic evolution,” El Departamento concludes.
