The European Prize for Applied Arts recognizes exceptional creative expression in the realms of applied arts and artisanal design. Based on criteria such as artistic merit, technical excellence, and innovation. All artists who work in the field of applied arts and reside in a country within the European Union’s Customs Union that are not required to pay customs duties for transportation to and from Belgium may apply. The prize encompasses a range of disciplines, including ceramics, glass, textiles, wood, paper, jewelry, furniture, and accessories. Additionally, this includes the area of “artisanal design,” which concerns objects conceived and crafted by the exhibitor. Either as a single piece (or prototype) or created in limited series.

The European Prize for Applied Arts, which kick-started in 2009, is a competition specifically for artists working in the area of applied arts and crafts residing in a member country of the European Union’s Customs Union that are not subject to customs charges for entrance and exit to Belgium. To make the cut, the artist must produce work that is of an aesthetically and technically high standard and are of an innovative style. This competition is associated in partnership with the City of Mons, World Craft Council Europe (WCCE), and is supported by the Ministry of Culture of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation.
