Farming handmade furniture by Sampling

Farming is a series of handmade furniture – by the Latvian company Sampling – with crocheted upholstery and wooden details.

The concept of this collection is a mutation of volumes that evolve from a traditional piece of furniture – a pouf.

The creations assume forms that relate to nature, landscape elements, and the animal world, although there are no explicit references to that.

The handmade furniture collection was first released in 2014 at Kortrijk Interieur and Milan. This time, we saw it at DesignMarch.

By then, it has been selected for several exhibitions:

  • 2017 – Roundabout Baltic, curated by Agnieszka Jacobson-Cielecka
  • 2016/17 – at the Form/Design Center (Sweden), Estonian Museum of Applied Art and Design (Estonia), and Museum of Decorative Art and Design (Latvia)
  • 2016 – Wild Things, curated by Lidewij Edelkoort and Philip Fimmano, at the Museum Texture (Belgium)

The Farming series is also part of the permanent design collection of the Texture Museum in Kortrijk, Belgium.

About the company

Sampling is an architecture and design practice founded in 2010 and led by Manten Devriendt and Liene Jākobsone.

The focus is on the relationship between the user, space, and environment. Instead of just making things and buildings, they rather try to influence the perception of space.
