Foster + Partners develops Apple Tower Theater in Los Angeles,
British studio Foster + Partners has taken on the task of developing the project,
called Apple Tower Theatre, in collaboration with technology giant Apple.
Located in the heart of downtown Los Angeles,
the theater was developed in order to give it a new purpose and restore its lost glory.
This development is an important part of the greater urban renewal of downtown Los Angeles,
and aims to enhance urban retail and community life in this part of the city.
Tower Theater
The original building was designed by S Charles Lee in 1927, and Charles is the designer of the Motion Picture Theatre, who owns many world-famous artworks.
This was the first movie theater in Los Angeles, built to show talking movies, located at the intersection of Eighth Street and Broadway.

The British studio’s new design redesigned the distinctive clock tower and its terracotta exteriors.
Historic interiors were improved, canopies and Broadway elevation improved.
New plans also upgrade accessibility to ensure the building will survive and serve the community long into the future.
The new design recreates the romance and excitement of the birth of cinema and revives the idea of creating the idea.
People are social by nature and love to be with other people.
The architects of the new design have made the Apple Tower Theater a new beacon of optimism and resilience for the city and a vote of confidence in downtown Los Angeles.
Exquisite interior detailing has been restored, so the Apple Theater is once again alive with action and festivity,
bringing urban life back to downtown Los Angeles.
The new interior design looks to create an active presence on Broadway,
where visitors are welcomed into a spacious atrium at street level.
Upon entering the building, attendees face a grand,
immaculately restored staircase to take visitors to the upper floors.
The lobby opens onto the elevated volume of the main theater hall on the ground floor,
which has been completely transformed into an imposing exhibition area.
The grand lobby evokes Charles Garnier’s Paris Opera,
which features a grand arched staircase with a bronze balustrade flanked by marble Corinthian columns.

The team restored and improved the intricate historical stucco detailing on the walls and ceiling, which dates back to the 1920s.
Architects have recreated the central dome of the theater ceiling by adding a mural of soothing golden sunbeams of the Southern California sky.
This idea was implemented to add dynamism and color to the space,
strongly referring to the golden age of speakers and movies.
A new forum has also been added to bring back the screen under the theater arch in the heart of the Apple Tower Theatre.
A secret set of stairs and elevators takes visitors up to the balcony level,
which has the best seats in the theater for viewing the Forum.

Foster + Partners has updated the theater’s original seating with spacious theater-style leather seating upstairs.
The upper floor is the perfect place for visitors to relax while they wait for their showtimes.
Located directly under the theater’s viewing windows, this part provides a complete snapshot of the theater in all its restored glory.
The new Apple Theater will be a new attraction for the audience, inspiring the audience and transforming the entire store, into a space for theatrical events.
