The city’s population doubled from 11 million to 25 million during this period,

while per capita living space jumped from 4.5 to 37.4 square metres.

Which is an incredible change.”

Through this uniquely Chinese narrative,

designers seek free discourses about recent and emerging transformations in the built environment:

Where are we going and what is at risk?

Do the conclusions lie in the architectural puzzle of density?

Will the future city feature modernist towers, traditional courtyards, or a symbiosis of the two?

Or will other possibilities come through virtual reality technology and clean and renewable energy?

In the exhibition, “visitors are encouraged to come up with their own answers by ‘watching’,

‘revealing’, ‘reflecting’ and ‘taking a stroll’ in the China Pavilion”.
