An interdisciplinary team from The University of Melbourne, Deakin University, The University of Tasmania, and The Australian National University have collaborated on a new exhibition exploring the significant relationship between mass migration and the modernization of Australia post-WWII. The objects and stories on display emphasize the contribution of non-Anglophone migrants and refugees to the modernization of Australia in the period post-World War II (1945-1979) when the urban and rural landscapes of the country significantly transform through nation-building programs.

Case studies in the exhibition include a study of migrant camps, key industrial sites for hydroelectric power generation, and defense. Moreover, raw-material production (BHP Steelworks, Port Kembla), independent small businesses, and associated industry and streetscapes in Melbourne suburbs.
