Volta Spark cable

The universal charging cable that is the subject of a successful Indiegogo crowdsourcing campaign was created by the Milanese product design studio Metafora.

An entrepreneur’s vision is extremely valuable since they devote all of their resources to a cause they support. This is in some ways an act of love, albeit a peculiar and unusual one; because when it comes to people, they fall in love with the whole, clearly seeing both its beauty and flaws. Entrepreneurs, on the other hand, often fall head over heels for a concept that they can only imagine. Indiegogo

One of the fascinating parts of design is that it is up to designers to give an idea form and substance, whether it takes the form of a tangible good, an engaging experience, a useful service, or a variety of other things.

Even though the end result may only be a symbol, for our clients it is THE symbol, we at Metafora like talking with them and encouraging them to express their ideas as clearly as possible.

This is how Metafora began working with a group of outstanding men from Australia’s Golden Coast and their own priceless passion, Volta.

We connected well with the Volta staff right away. A creative company run by Adedayo and his associates specializes in charging methods for consumer gadgets.

Plugging in the charger when the phone battery is low is something we have been doing for decades. We’ve become accustomed to this and believe that having a shared wire is the only way to fix the issue. Volta, though, intends to alter that.

As Tony Fadell, one of the iPod’s creators, famously stated, “Sometimes, habituation isn’t beneficial. It’s terrible if it prevents us from recognizing the issues in our immediate environment. And if it prevents us from identifying and resolving those issues, that’s pretty bad.

One cable for all devices with the new Volta Spark

Our first joint effort was to rebuild their flagship product, a charging cable with magnetic tips that can transform an open end into any kind of device. Simply use one cable for all of your devices.

The goal of this project was to develop a new design language for the entire product catalogue, therefore this redesign entailed much more than just restyling.

In order to better understand what Volta was about and where they came from, but crucially where they intended to go, we dug deeper. After several months of study and definitions, we were able to produce some sound recommendations that could translate our client’s ideas into reality.

The Volta Spark, the coolest charging cable on the market, was their first product as a result of that definition. The campaign was just recently launched on Indiegogo, and it’s already wildly successful!

You might think, “It’s just a cable, what should it say?” when you first glance at it.

Well, that’s the issue, you have to be able to communicate durability and quality while merging soft and stiff components to achieve a modern aesthetic in a little space. You also need to represent as much of your idea using colors and textures. All of these traits are present in a tiny thing, and a millimeter can cause us to shift our opinion from “Aww, it looks like a trombone guy!” to “That’s so cool!”

Since proportions and details are so crucial in this situation, we asked our partner Zortrax to help us by supporting the creation of top-notch prototypes using their resin printer, the Inkspire.

We printed dozens of essential ideas that helped us comprehend the size of the total and how it would seem when connected to a device.

Zortrax’s Inkspire printer was used to create the prototypes for Volta Spark.

Quality can be found in the tiniest of particulars, in the intricacies, and throughout a project. We enjoy working on and designing even simple items like the Volta Charger precisely because of this.

While you could erroneously believe that a single wire has “nothing to do,” there are actually countless alternatives. To understand how small details completely alter how products look, we conducted a great deal of material and finish experiments.

In the end, even a “simple cable” like Volta’s was able to create its own difference in daily use. This was possible because to the crucial role played by ergonomics studies, sketches, and prototypes.

There will be many more projects like this one, of which we are really proud. There are many more methods to make charging your gadgets more enjoyable, and we can’t wait to teach you how!

Volta Spark is currently available on Indiegogo!

On day 2, the campaign achieved 686 percent of its objective!

Our entire effort has gone into creating this product. If you appreciate the project, think about checking out the Indiegogo campaign, spreading the word, or just liking this article.
