For nearly half a century, the Landmark Trust has been working to save historic British buildings at risk of being lost forever.
The Landmark Trust is one of Britain’s leading building conservation charities.
It was founded in 1965, by the late Sir John Smith and Lady Smith, in order to restore “landmarks”,
And give it a new future by making self-catering holidays available to everyone.
All the buildings are rich in history and atmosphere, including picturesque pavilions,
medieval long houses, artillery forts and Gothic follies.
Castles of chieftains and the huts of cotton weavers,
the homes of great writers and the creations of great architects, from Browning to Boswell, from Pugin to Palladio.
The Landmark Trust has worked to save historic and architecturally interesting buildings and their surrounding areas from neglect.
Its goal was to enhance the enjoyment of historic buildings by enabling as many people as possible to experience living in them for a short period.
The Landmark Trust has allocated rental income from the 200 exceptional buildings under its care,
to support their maintenance and keep them at the forefront of landscape, culture and society.
The rental income generated from holiday bookings pays for future maintenance of the buildings.
As a charity, the Landmark Trust relies on volunteer income to save more buildings.
